Maintenance Engineer

I Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. I modify and continuously improve maintenance systems and ensure involvement in the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modification of existing assets.

Key Responsibilities

Track production losses and Pareto all machinery downtime and implement strategies to reduce those losses or high costs.

Ensure Root Cause Analyses are conducted on all failures in accordance with Asset Managers KPI’s and develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems.

Responsible for monitoring and improving equipment availability and performance at satisfactory levels through continuous implementation of Pro Active maintenance strategies.

Prepare reports, metrics, and other tracking tools in order to measure and improve asset strategy processes.

Maintain and adhere to a quality system that ensures the creation and retention of accurate procedures, processes and records that can be located, communicated and/or distributed as required.

Monitor Asset Management KPI's, identify gaps in performance and recommend actions to resolve Implement and coordinate maintenance reliability best practices

Implement and coordinate predictive and preventative maintenance best practices

Collaborate and network with other plants to improve on existing maintenance systems and processes

Ensure all maintenance strategies have been assessed and implemented prior to commissioning of any new equipment installations or projects.

Systematically define, design, develop, monitor and refine asset maintenance plan to include:

o Value-added preventive maintenance tasks

o Effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems

Works with Production to perform analyses of assets including:

o Asset utilization

o OEE

Maintain high level of service and work performance, and also support and promote a positive and cooperative team environment which fosters creative problem solving and shared learning

I was Project Engineering Support for the successful onsite assembling, installation and commissioning of mining machinery for Hwange Project.

I was the project team leader for the implementation of OHSAS 18001:2007 leading to certification by Standards Association of Zimbabwe in February 2015

I provided leadership, direction and developed a large team of technicians and condition monitoring specialists to improve asset reliability and cost through reliability analysis and the delivery of the defect elimination process. I led Root Cause Analysis sessions and I was the custodian of the site defect elimination programme, thereby enabling high plant availability.

I was the project leader for the downtime reduction project and I improved machine efficiency from 40% to 55%.

I was the project champion for the batch loss reduction project and I reduced batch loss from 6% to 2%.

I developed maintenance strategies for equipment using the RCM methodology and I managed to reduce PM by 30% without compromising plant reliability.

I provided technical leadership and support to the plant in terms of asset management technology to enable the implementation of business strategies to leverage equipment, productivity, reliability and maintainability, thereby enabling high plant reliability and utilisation at lowest cost.
